*  Domestic Violence  *

Violence in the home, where a person wants and needs to feel safe, is all too prevalent.

Assault in the home is still assault!

It is a pervasive problem in virtually all countries, cultures, classes and income groups.  It is a complex and multifaceted problem that requires individual solutions for different people in different socio- cultural contexts.   It affects people from all walks of life and regions of the world.

A new Relationship Group is to start as soon as we have enough participants.  It is for adults, many of whom have found themselves in abusive relationships.   This group will help people understand human dynamics/patterns, learn to watch for "trouble indicators", learn about ourselves, make healthier choices in partners, set appropriate limits/boundaries, and help build healthier relationships.

The group leaders are T J & Shawna

>>>     We offer a therapeutic group experience for children and their parent, or caregiver, who have suffered Domestic Violence (D.V.).

That group is called, "Successful Steps to a Better Life: Violence is Not the Answer" designed to help people heal and reduce the probability that people will go on to enter another abusive relationship, and/or that children will accept domestic violence as they grow up.  Research shows that females are the predominant adult victims of D.V. in relationships.

The Successful Steps  program has been developed around a psycho-educational group workshop based on an eleven week model.   We deal with many things, including emotions (like anger and guilt), personal rights, boundaries, safety, and assertive problem solving.

The current team members are T J and Tonya .

There are many Myths of Domestic Violence, including that if the victim will just do things "right" they will not be hurt anymore.

We do not believe that threatening or striking someone is a sign of love!

It is estimated that in the United States, an assault on an adult

significant other (by a spouse or life partner) occurs about every

15 seconds.

Both short and long-term measures must be considered.

>>>    If someone you know is being beaten, or is in fear of their life, you don't have to just let it continue.  There are several programs that could help, from police departments to battered women shelters.
